Gloucestershire county council is set to lay a new road surface along a main route between Gloucester and Newent.

The B4215 Malswick Mill, Newent is being given a new facelift as part of Gloucestershire County Council’s £150 million investment into the county’s highways.

A spokesman said: "Crews will be resurfacing the road from Tuesday July 10 to Tuesday July 31 between 9.30am and 3.30pm, excluding weekends.

"Every effort is being taken to minimise disruption, so the road will still be open during peak times and local businesses in Highleadon will remain open as usual. Crews will complete vital resurfacing along the 19,014 square metres stretch of road with 2246 tonnes of material."

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood, added: “As part of the council’s ongoing £150 million investment, we are making long lasting improvements to this area as we know it’s a vital route for many people. I’d like to thank residents and businesses in advance for bearing with us whilst the closure is in place.”

And Cllr Will Windsor-Clive, county councillor for Newent, said: “The B4215 is a key route for residents and visitors to Newent, so this work will be a great contribution to the area. I would like to thank road users for their patience while the work is carried out.”

A diversion route will be in place.

A spokesman said: "Follow the A40 in the direction of the Over Ross Roundabout. At the roundabout, take the exit towards the A449 The Midlands/Worcester then continue along the A449 to the junction with the B4224, turn right and follow the road to Upton Bishop. "In Upton Bishop take the B4221 in the direction of Newent and continue along the road all the way to Newent. In Newent take the B4215 towards Malswick. The diversion is the same in reverse."
