PUPILS from ten county primary schools got to see their own films on the big screen.

Children were trained in filmmaking and then went on to use photographs from the Derek Evans archive as their inspiration.

The participating children interviewed people; wrote scenes, stories and poems; learned to edit film and composed their own music.

Their work was shown at Hereford Odeon - the children introduced each film and the event finished with an awards ceremony.

Sarah George, teacher at St. Francis Xavier’s School in Venns Lane, said: “This project has been invaluable to the children’s academic learning but in addition to this, it has taught them the importance of working together as a group, it has improved their speaking and listening skills and given them the confidence to try things that they might not normally do.

"Most importantly, the children have thoroughly enjoyed it and it has been a great success.”

The event was organised by Catcher Media as part of the National Lottery funded Herefordshire Life Through a Lens project.

Thanks to a Heritage Lottery Fund grant, Catcher Media and Herefordshire Council’s Learning and Achievement Service delivered filmmaking training.
