PUPILS and staff from Redmarley Primary, past and present, will be celebrating the school’s 50th anniversary at a free event this Saturday (September 22).

One of the highlights at the golden anniversary celebration will be the opening of a time capsule, which was sealed and buried at the school in 1993, when the primary marked its silver anniversary.

The school was founded half a century ago, in 1968, and plans have been laid to mark the special anniversary with a fun family celebration, open to all past and present pupils and staff.

A spokesman said: "Visitors can enjoy reminiscing in the classrooms, plus try traditional fun and games including apple bobbing, skittles and splat the rat along with a music and a disco.

"An exhibition of old photographs and newspaper clippings will also be on display, plus at 5.30pm the school will open the time capsule from the silver anniversary year."

Refreshments will also be available including tea and cakes, hot pork and beef rolls plus a licensed bar.

Sarah Smith, headteacher at Redmarley Primary Academy said “We are really looking forward to opening the time capsule at our 50th anniversary celebrations on Saturday.

"The children are very excited and have been imagining what could be in it. After all, the time capsule was sealed 25 years ago!"

Mrs Smith added: "If you came to our school and have any stories to tell we would love to see you, please do come and join us or tweet them to us @RedmarleyPA.”
