HIGHLEY RFC 8PTS, BROMYARD RFC 18
BROMYARD opened their league account with a convincing win at newly-formed Highley Rugby Club.
The home side proved to be well organised, they have attracted a number of experienced players and clearly intend to make an impression. In a fiercely contested first half, veteran centre Roger Dixon settled the nerves with two well taken penalties and took Bromyard into a half-time lead of 6-3.
Never the best travellers, the visitors were grateful for the experience of Dixon and Andrew Bishop in the backs and it proved to be Dixon's day when he extended the leaded with a try that he converted for a 13-3 scoreline.
Battling Highley pulled back to 8-13 but man-of-the-match, flanker Will Tomkins put the tie beyond doubt when he crashed over for a winning try.
Bromyard entertain Trinity Guild RFC tomorrow (Saturday) at home in the first round of the EDF Energy Junior Vase, kick-off at 3pm.
