STAND by your hot plates, because a new cookery school has been launched in Worcestershire.
Sara Dover has combined her passion for food and nutrition to start her own cookery school, Can't Cook Will Cook, at Top Barn Farm Training Centre at Holt Heath, near Worcester.
Classes run most weekends and cover many culinary lessons, from the basics of cooking to preparing healthy lunchboxes, delicious soups and the perfect roast dinner.
Ms Dover, from Stourport- on-Severn, is a trained chef and will soon qualify as a naturopathic nutritionist. "I began training as a nutritionist in 2006 but I soon realised that clients would find it difficult to put into practice my advice if they couldn't cook basic dishes," she said. "So I decided that, as well as running a naturopathic nutrition practice once I was qualified, I would, in the meantime, set up my own cookery school." Ms Dover realised that, while her commitment towards the project was there, she had a certain lack of self-belief about whether she could actually set up her own business.
So she turned to the Opening Doors programme from Women in Rural Enterprise, which offers a structured package of training, support and information.
"The support you receive is fantastic," she said. "Christine Rutherford, the project officer for Worcestershire, is so enthusiastic and positive and that really helped to build my confidence." The next WiRE event is its annual conference, WiFi & Wellies on Tuesday, March 18, at Harper Adams University College in Newport, Shropshire. For more information visit www. wireuk.org
