Coral betting shop target of attempted robbery

ROBBERS have targeted Ledbury town centre for the fourth time in less than two months.

This means that, on average from the middle of February, a robbery or attempted robbery has been taking place in Ledbury town centre once every two weeks.

On Tuesday, April 1, the manager at the Coral Betting Shop in Bye Street was confronted by two hooded men whose faces were masked by scarves.

No weapons were seen, but the two men demanded cash aggressively and only fled when the manager picked up the phone to call the police.

spokesman, Neil Tipton said: "They were given short shrift by the staff and chased off the premises, empty-handed."

The manager himself followed the fleeing masked men all the way to the door.

Coral spokesman, David Stevens said the incident happened at around 9pm, during the Champions League Manchester United and Roma game.

Mr Stevens said of the attempted robbery: "You don't demand money in a nice way.

"Fortunately, while unpleasant for the manager and his staff, nothing came of it."
