BOSBURY Primary is the first school in Herefordshire to receive a national "Leading Aspect Award" for excellence.

The prestigious awards are given across a wide field and Bosbury Primary has been granted one for "promoting high quality, inclusive and innovative teaching and learning opportunities in music."

Leading Aspect board members include such high powered names as Professor Tim Brighouse, chief advisor for London Schools and curriculum director, Mick Waters.

Bosbury's head teacher, Liz Farr said: "We are delighted to receive the accolade of a Leading Aspect Award. It is a true honour.

"Our pupils are renowned for their musical talents and have taken part in studio and concert recordings.

"They regularly entertain with live performances at minor venues around the UK, but mostly in Herefordshire."

She added: "Our young musicians are probably best known for their outstanding performances at the Bosbury Prom, our summer term showcase concert.

"This year proved the best yet, with performances by a brass ensemble, a junk percussion' band, our highly acclaimed school choir, a much sought after group of drummers, individual instrumentalists and a highly accomplished steel pan band."

In March this year Radio Wyvern came to the school, before the Six Nations rugby championship, to record a version of the gospel classic, "Swing Low".

The song is also the anthem of the England Rugby Team.

The school choir was chosen because of its earlier success in a professional production of the musical, "Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat", down in Bristol.

Bosbury pupils have also taken part in a number of concerts at the John Masefield High School.

Miss Farr said the school's vision was to "present the widest possible range of music, performed to the highest possible standards, to as many people as possible".

Now Miss Farr and the school's music co-ordinator have been invited to share their expertise at a Leading Aspects Awards conference.

Miss Farr said: "We are delighted to share Bosbury's good practice with other professionals."
