Life as a High School Musical Techie….

George Russell and Paddy Merryman are part of the 9-strong backstage crew in charge of all scene changes, props organisation and trying to keep the 100-strong cast quiet in the wings! Here they interview each other on their experience so far….

George: What is life working backstage like?

Paddy: Not bad, it was pretty easy on the first few weeks because we weren’t so busy, so we were sent home earlier and got lots of rest.

George: How is it going now?

Paddy: Because we are getting nearer to the production, the backstage crew are up to their eyes in work and preparation. We have hired a lot of the set and it has only just arrived, so we are getting used to working with all the new stuff.

George: That all sounds very nice, but as I am also in the backstage crew, I also have been feeling the pressure of this production, you can ask me some questions… … Paddy: What is life like backstage for the High School Musical?

George: I am finding it fun because I have never worked backstage before on any production, so this is a first time experience.

Paddy: How are you finding the work backstage?

George: It’s quite easy so far but the work is gradually getting harder as we are getting closer to the production.

Paddy: Do you think you will continue working backstage in future productions?

George: Yes because I am enjoying the experience so far and I was supposed to work backstage in the last school production but I was away.
