AATER a fascinating talk from a representative of Amnesty International, the Sixth Form has started up an Amnesty Youth Group.
Our main aim will be to write letters campaigning for prisoners of conscience and also to show our support for them and their families.
This small action, combined with other members from all over the world, can lead to a dramatic improvement in the situation of a victim of human rights abuse.
For example, putting pressure on officials through letter writing can result in torture being stopped, access granted to doctors or lawyers, death sentences being commuted, 'disappearances' investigated, and prisoners released.
We soon hope to involve the whole school in the scheme, so our actions have a bigger impact.
