Elderly people enjoy WWII lunch

ELDERLY people from Ledbury enjoyed a World War II-style lunch as guests of the town's primary school pupils today(Thursday).

The meal was prepared by pupils from food that they have grown themselves in the school allotment, which they have been cultivating with the help of the Allotment Association.

The school has been studying World War II this term, and its summer fete a few weeks ago had a similar theme.

So Year 6 pupils invited 13 pensioners in their 80s and 90s, along with allotment association members, to be their guests at lunch.

The children picked fruit and vegetables from the allotment first thing, and then worked throughout the morning preparing the meal. The menus included corned-beef hash with salad from the allotment, chicken with mushroom sauce and school allotment vegetables, and school raspberries with cream.
