LEDBURY mayor Chris Holbourne had a narrow escape on Wednesday when a tree fell on the road ahead of his car.

Coun Holbourne was driving along the Eastnor road, to take part in a Ledbury in Bloom prizegiving ceremony, when the tree fell.

"It fell not far in front of the van which was ahead of me, but he managed to stop in time," he said.

"Local people rallied round and stated to cut the tree up so they could clear the road. It was a bit of a team effort."
