SUPPORTERS of the Ann Cam primary school in Dymock were delighted to be told they had raised more than £7,000 in the past year.
The announcement was made at the AGM of the Parents, Teachers and Friends Association.
Retiring chairman Andrew Winterbotham said: “I would like to praise all the parents and friends of the school for this fantastic result, which was double the amount that had been raised in recent years.”
Treasurer Richard Dunnett presented the accounts for the 08/09 year and revealed that the phenomenal May Day celebrations had been the most prosperous fund-raising event of the year generating nearly £1,000. Other events which helped with the record-breaking total included the fireworks celebrations, the Christmas fayre, a bingo evening, summer disco and the recent attendance of the School at Newent’s Onion Fayre which helped to raise both the profile of the School and also money through a range of fun activities.
The children of the School and their parents have also been instrumental in the fund-raising activities with every class holding cake stalls. Tonnes of clothing have also raised mountains of money through the Bag 2 School charity.
Chris Ward, head teacher, said: “All of the hard-work of the PTFA truly rewards the pupils. New items purchased have included further computers, a new adventure trail, a clavinova for music lessons, netball equipment and an excellent new sign board in order to keep the community involved with all that has happened at the school.”
Getting events off to a bang this year will be the annual fireworks night on Thursday November 5. Celebrations will start at 6pm with a barbecue and refreshments.
