MYSTERIOUS blue circles and footprints will be appearing in the centre of Ledbury next Saturday (November 14) to mark National Diabetes Day.
Last year, Ledbury Rotary Club lit up the town's market house in blue to mark the occasion, and this year the club has devised a "blue trail" to increase awareness of the disease.
The fight against diabetes is one of the top fundraising priorities for the club, which for nine years has been running a foot care service in the Caribbean, where diabetes is rife. Diabetes-caused foot ulcers, if untreated, often lead to amputation, but Rotary's successful programme has led to a dramatic fall in the amputation rate.
Club members will mark National Diabetes Day with a stall at the Market House.
Along the Homend, members of the public can follow the blue trail and answer questions posed in a light-hearted quiz, then collect a small prize at the Rotary stand.
Rotarians will be stewarding the route from 10am until 4 pm and informing people about the footcare project. Rotary is working with the International Diabetic Federation to roll out the project across more Caribbean countries and beyond.
