Theatre season has something for everyone

FANS of drama, dance, music and laughter are well-catered for in Malvern Theatres’ newly-announced Winter ‘09 to Spring ‘10 season.

Renowned acts including the Russian State Ballet of Siberia and Moscow State Circus feature alongside some of the biggest names of stage and screen in a truly impressive line-up that has something for every taste.

January sees the ever-popular Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat return to Malvern, with Any Dream Will Do finalist Craig Chalmers once again taking on the starring role.

Then from February 1-6 Hollywood star Kelly McGillis, best known for her roles in Witness, The Accused and - of course - Top Gun, will share the stage with Rolf Saxon for a production of the romantic comedy Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune.

Stilettos will be being sharpened ahead of the bold and brash Richard O’Brien’s Rocky Horror Show, which brings the pelvic-thrusting Time Warp and a host of other classic tunes to Malvern from February 8-13.

The Moscow State Circus makes its first ever visit to Malvern Theatres from February 16-21, while multi-award winning actress Brenda Blethyn leads the cast in the poignant and moving Haunting from February 22-27.

A new production of Willy Russell’s much-loved musical Blood Brothers takes centre stage from March 1-13, while The Russian State Ballet of Siberia will be performing Giselle, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker between March 15 and 20.

Lee Mead stars in an adaptation of one of Oscar Wilde’s most celebrated stories Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime from March 22-27, while dramas The Secret of Sherlock Holmes and The History Boys follow in April.

April also sees a tribute to one of Britain’s greatest comedians, A Night Out With Tommy Cooper: Jus’ Like That, and award-winning musical Come Dancing, written-by and starring former Kinks frontman Ray Davies.

Music fans are also well-catered for later in the season, with opera La Traviata, musical Oklahoma! and The Neil Sedaka Story: Laughter in the Rain completing the line-up.

Events in the Forum Theatre include regular Malvern Concert Club and Yamaha Piano Series concerts, tribute acts to Queen, The Beatles, Bon Jovi and Take That and acclaimed stand-up comedian Stewart Lee.
