ONE of the last bottles of Malvern Water to come off the production line at Colwall was this week handed to water cure historian Dr John Harcup.

Dr Harcup of Malvern Spa Association says the bottle could be a central exhibit at a visitor centre he hopes to establish on the plant's site.

Although Coca-Cola wants to sell off the site for housing, Dr Harcup wants to persuade the company to preserve a Victorian building there for the visitor centre.

Malvern Hills District Council has added its voice to Herefordshire Council's call for Coca-Cola to rethink its decision.

Coun Barbara Williams of MHDC has written to the firm, urging directors to look again at selling the plant as a going concern.

She said: "Just selling for housing is not an option. They should be making every possible attempt to sell the business on as a going concern.

"I am convinced there are other entrepreneurs who would want to continue developing Malvern Water commercially, and in doing so, benefit the local economy."
