A BROMYARD butcher has featured on television thanks to a super-sized Scotch egg cook-off.

Legges of Bromyard emerged victorious in the challenge as part of Monster Munchies on the Good Food channel.

The show, hosted by celebrity Masterchef winner and ex-England rugby international Matt Dawson, saw two teams going head-to-head as they supersize a classic British dish.

2,000 eggs were used and the scale of the task was so big a special deep fat fryer had to made and the mix was lowered in to place by a JCB.

Owner Anthony Legge said: “We really went for it but we had a real thinking job on our hands. Cooking started at noon and we worked right through the night until about seven in the morning.”

He added: “Unfortunately we couldn’t get it to cool down enough to give out samples, so we handed out small Scotch eggs we’d cooked instead.”

Mr Legge said Matt Dawson got “stuck in” cracking eggs and was an “absolute laugh” throughout filming.

Legges took on the Handmade Scotch Egg Company of Bishops Frome in the 24-hour challenge.

The episode was aired on Thursday, 6 and Friday 7, January.
