THE English Civil War is coming to Bromesberrow later this year as part of a fundraising drive for the village church.
Civil War re-enactors the Sealed Knot and the First Foot will be staging a mock battle as a centrepiece for this summer's big village extravaganza.
St Mary's Church needs to raise several thousand pounds to pay for urgent work, including completion of roof repairs and the installation of a toilet and kitchen. A sundial on the church dating to 1849 also needs to be replaced.
Churchwarden Jan Long said: "If we can raise £5,000 from this event, we'll be very happy. This exciting event will have costumes and weaponry from the period and provide an opportunity for an educational focus for local schools.”
The battle itself will be followed by the chance for children to go into a special arena to handle the weapons, and be shown how to drill by the infantrymen.
There will also be stalls selling a range of goods, plus refreshments.
The event is on Saturday, July 9, from 1.30pm, with the battle commencing at 2pm.
