MOVES to restore Hay-on-Wye’s Cheesemarket to its former glory continue apace with a grand auction of goods and promises at the Oxford Road community centre.
Plans to use Hay Veterinary Group practice manager Chris Davies’ auctioneer skills to raise as much money as possible on March 12 are afoot following a successful fashion show last year.
Chris Armstrong and other organisers are hopeful residents will get behind the project in a big way.
“It’s the traditional time for a spring clean and we are in the market for saleable items of all kinds and also promises of services such as gardening, tuition or leisure activities, for example,” he said.
Plans to make downstairs an actively used market place and turn upstairs into a flat were agreed after Powys County Council granted the specially formed Hay-on-Wye Community Interest Company a long lease last summer.

Advance bids will also be accepted, while the centre itself will also open between 6pm and 8pm on March 11.
