CHURCH bells will peal for nearly three hours in Colwall to celebrate 125 years of bellringing in Herefordshire.

Ten members of the Hereford Diocesan Guild of Bellringers will ring 1,125 changes of Yorkshire Royal at St James the Great on Wednesday, March 2, from 10am.

Colwall has a special place in the history of the guild as one of its founding members, George Custance, was the church’s rector in the 1880s.

The guild now has more than 600 active members who ring the bells in 140 churches in Herefordshire and Shropshire.
