Top names come to literary festival

THE first ever Worcestershire Literary Festival takes place between Fridays June 17 and June 27.

The festival incorporates 92 events over 10 days at 36 different venues.

Residents and visitors will be treated to book signings, poetry readings, talks, workshops and outdoor activities during the festival with events taking place in Worcester and elsewhere in the county including an appearance at Malvern Youth Centre by the punk poet John Cooper Clark.

Other highlights include Rory Bremner at The Artrix in Bromsgrove, Attila The Stockbroker at Evesham Arts Centre and book signings at Waterstones in Worcester by authors Nicci French, Anita Sharma-James and Nick Berry. There will be an appearance by Victoria Connelly, author of A Weekend With Mr Darcy and on Saturday, June 18, shoppers will be treated to some outdoor poetry and spoken word readings in Bell Square, Crowngate, Worcester.

The Worcestershire Literary Festival is in its inaugural year and has been organised and put together entirely by volunteers.

Martin Driscoll, festival organiser, said: “From the moment the idea of a literary festival was proposed last year the support for the event from local people and organisations has been incredible.”

A complete programme of events is available online at www.worcslitfest.com and printed copies are available at outlets and venues across the county.
