CHILDREN at a school near Bromyard have been enjoying a week-long celebration of the great outdoors.

Time in the classroom at Pencombe CE Primary School has been traded for a hands-on experience of wildlife, which has seen every pupil visiting the forest school at Brockhampton Primary School.

There have also been willow weaving sessions to help create two new huts for the school grounds to be used for imaginative play and a place to shelter and eat lunch, along with art classes and maths trails around the village.

Headteacher Chloe Evans said: “We like to have these themed weeks and this one has been woodland week, celebrating the great outdoors. There’s such a wealth of learning opportunities in the outdoor environment so it is nice to make the most of it.”

She added the pupils were looking forward to having the new huts to play in.

“The children are really excited about it, particularly as they get a sense of ownership as they have been involved in creating them.”
