A LEDBURY man says he owes the lives of two of his grandchildren to Great Ormond Street Hospital, and now he has organised a fund-raising fair to say thank you.
David Urquhart of the Posterity architectural salvage business, off the Worcester Road, said: “One grandchild, Tiger, had a very rare heart condition as a baby.
“He will need a few pills for the rest of his life, but without Great Ormond Street Hospital he would not be here. Now he is a fit and lively four-year-old.”
Another grandchild, Angus, had to be flown over from Dubai after drinking contaminated babies' milk.
The milk gave babies large kidney and gall stones, leaving them in terrible pain.
Mr Urquhart said: “I had him flown out to Great Ormond Street and doctors removed a stone the size of an egg, when he was just 12 months old. It is a remarkable hospital and I love it dearly.”
Now, by way of his appreciation, Mr Urquhart has organised a vintage and handmade fair at his Worcester Road business, to take place tomorrow (Saturday, November 26) from 10am to 5pm.
He said: "We'll have 25 stalls displaying items including clothing, jewellery, toys, games, kitchenalia and house wares from generations past, intermingled with some creative and beautifully made glassware, ceramics, cards, patchwork, knits, textiles, and much more."
Mr Urquhart will not be charging for entry but will ask visitors to put their hands in their pockets to support Great Ormond Street Hospital children’s charity.
He said: "It is very important to me. It is surely the most important hospital for children, and we are hoping for a good turnout.”
