Homes are planned for ex-college prep site

A DEVELOPER is looking to build 10 new homes on a former prep school site in the heart of Malvern.
Banner Homes has submitted plans to re-develop part of the former Malvern College prep site in Abbey Road to Malvern Hills District Council.
This would involve the demolition of former school buildings and the conversion of an existing period property, Hampton House, into five apartments.
A “courtyard” of five new houses would also be built.
The site has been vacant since the prep school moved to Colwall in a merger with The Downs School in 2008.
Planning permission is already in place to demolish a disused sports hall and build seven townhouses on another part of the site.
Pre-application discussions have been held with MHDC planners and a public consultation event was held at Malvern College in December.
A statement submitted in support of the application says: “In our view this will create an attractive scheme that will enhance the character and appearance of the Great Malvern conservation area and merits full support.”
Members of Malvern Civic Society’s planning committee will be discussing the application on Wednesday before submitting their comments to the council.
