THREE local club runners will take to the streets of the capital in eye-catching fancy dress in a marathon charity effort.

Barry Thompson, Clifford Berry and Steve Rooke, left, who are all members of Ledbury and District Harriers, are taking on the London Marathon on Sunday, April 22 to raise funds for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

During the course of the 26.2 miles they will be easy to spot, thanks to their costumes of lime green wigs, tutus and knee-high socks.

Mr Thompson said: “We ran around Ledbury dressed like this a couple of weeks back and got a fantastic reception. I imagine it will be 10-fold on the day.

“All of us are going to stay together. We are going to go around and have a bit of fun and take in the atmosphere, high-five people and maybe even carry a bucket to raise some more money.”

He added one of his children had recently had some contact with the charity after being ill and the run would be a nice way to say thank you.

The charity provides care for life limited or life threatened young people and their families via specialist care 24 hours a day, seven days a week and currently support more than 600 children and 865 families, including those who are bereaved.

They have three hospices in the Midlands, with Acorns for the Three Counties in Worcester’s Bath Road along with those in Selly Oak and Walsall.
