Councillor carries out her litter pick pledge
MALVERN’S newest councillor put one of her election pledges into practice as she organised a tidy-up around one of the town’s historic water features.
Anna Stenning, who was elected to represent the Link Ward on Malvern Town Council in a by-election last month, gathered a group of volunteers on Saturday morning and tackled the area around Lord Sandy’s Spout in Spring Lane in preparation for its use in next month’s well dressing celebrations.
“The springs are the essence of what’s unique about Malvern, its beautiful natural environment, and are available for everyone to enjoy,” said Councillor Stenning. “One of my election pledges was to improve availability and access to green space in the ward, and I hope this will contribute to awareness of the many things the Link has to offer.”
She thanked Malvern Hills District Council’s street scene team for lending the equipment.

You are correct this team of litter pickers seem to be very community spirited. Councillors whom will put their self forward either for this type of task (and in their free time) are doing it for publicity, or because they feel the Council is lacking in its duties. I have known some councillors get up and go out with the refuse wagon. Therefore, they actually can understand the workings of their departments. We may now have a Councillor, who will not just accept what officers and manger say as being the ultimate. However, they will let it be known that the public has elected them, and that they determine the policy for the council and not officer.

One must give credit when credit is due. My only suspicion is that this publicity would have been fanciful, had this team lead by Councillor Anna Stenning been removing litter and excreta form the town’s streets. Posing at some well-known “Well” with her selected helpers. Councillor Stenning, I wonder how often you and your faithful followers, intend to clean up after your Constituents? Alternatively, you could guarantee that you will strive to see the council department responsible for keeping streets and areas such as Lord Sandy’s Spout in Spring Lane is kept at a reasonable state of tidiness.
