Olympic Torch - today is the day! (maps)

CROWDS: The scene in Ledbury this morning CROWDS: The scene in Ledbury this morning

AFTER months of planning today is the day that the Olympic Torch finally comes to Worcester.

Today the Faithful City takes its place in the spotlight as the Olympic flame passes through Worcester on its tour of Great Britain.

The eyes of the world will be on Worcester as the torch heads south from Droitwich, via Fernhill Heath, and finally arrives in the city at 6.36pm.

And later on the city will party at Worcestershire County Cricket Club in New Road to celebrate its arrival.

The bunting is already out, the runners ready, the picnics packed and the party prepared.

This evening the flame is passed from runner to runner and makes its way around Worcester.

Over the past few months we have featured many of those lucky enough to have been chosen as torch bearers.

Their stories are inspirational, and they have truly earned the honour. Now it’s time for the people of Worcester to take to the streets to welcome the Olympic flame to our city and to cheer on those who carry their torch with such pride. We urge Worcester to show the world how proud we are to play such a significant part in this Great British relay.

• The Worcester News will be running a live blog on this website later today and publishing an eight-page special tomorrow.

There will be at least one guy dressed with a Brazilian shirt and waving a flag! And this guy will probably do it again in 2016 at his home town :-)

We're at the mercy of the organisers, who haven't supplied one. Further info about the route(s) can be found here http://www.london201

As far as im aware there is only one street in Droitwich, just stand on that one and you’ll be fine.

Followed your map and timings to see the torch leave Worcester this morning. Pity your timings were wrong as I arrived at the Cathedral at 7:50 to be told it had already gone. Thanks for the one-in-a-lifetime experience !!!
