Legacy cash is to fund new pavilion
PLAYERS at a Bransfordbased cricket club are bowled over after receiving £50,000 funding in celebration of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Worcester Nomads have secured the money from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund to improve its pavilion.
The grant is part of the £135 million Places People Play legacy programme, bringing the magic of the Olympic and Paralympic Games into communities across the country.
Every club or group that receives funding will carry the London 2012 Inspire mark, celebrating the link to the Games.
The Nomads will use the funding to extend the existing pavilion to incorporate an equipment store, umpires room, and scorebox.
The changing rooms and showers, club room, bar, kitchen and toilet will also be upgraded.
Club chairman Christopher Marsh said: “We are delighted to secure one of the first Inspired Facilities grants, which will enable us to upgrade the quality of our premises to match the quality of our coaches.
“It is the cornerstone of our strategy to have an outstanding club for the 2012 Olympics legacy.”
The project is one of 350 local community sports groups who have been offered a total of £17.4 million in Olympic legacy funding through the Inspired Facilities Fund.
