A FORMER student at Ledbury’s John Masefield High School raised more than £13,000 for the Stroke Association when she jumped out of a plane.

Samanatha Bensted, aged 20, was inspired to take the challenge after her half-brother William, now aged three, suffered a stroke last summer.

“You didn't think of young people having strokes, so I did the challenge both to raise money for the Stroke Association and to raise awareness," said Samantha, a first-year student at the University of Nottingham, where she is studying children’s nursing.

She added: “We jumped from 15,000 feet, which is the highest you’re allowed in the UK. We free fell at 125mph for a minute. It’s the first time I've done it, and it was absolutely amazing.”
