Contest a must for budding snappers

BUDDING photographers are being urged to get snapping for Beacon Camera Club’s annual competition.

The Malvern-based club is once again hosting this popular contest in association with Worcestershire County Council.

The competition is open to any pupil under 19 on September 1, who is in full-time education in the county, and there are three age groups: primary, lower secondary and upper secondary.

Entries will be accepted between now and January 31 next year, and should be submitted to the website beaconcameraclub.co.uk.

They will be judged by a panel of experienced club members, many of whom hold distinctions from the Royal Photographic Society.

Fifty finalist images will be selected, and an awards night will be held next March at Bishop Perowne College in Worcester.

The finalists’ work will also be published in the Worcestershire Young Photographer of the Year 2013 Year Book.

Prizewinners will receive a photographic training day, a mounted print of their winning image, and other photographic items donated by the Worcester branches of Jessops and London Camera Exchange.

Last year the competition attracted well over 500 entries and organisers hope for many more this year.
