A SPECIAL event hosted by Malvern mayor Coun Ian Hopwood has raised more than £1,000 for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

The Mayor’s Bonanza, billed as an afternoon of family fun and entertainment, was a great success, said Coun Hopwood.

It featured music from the Perdido Street Jazz Band and Tewkesbury Town Band among others, children’s entertainment ranging from Victorian-style fairground rides to drumming workshop, stalls and games.

Coun Hopwood said: “Considering we were competing against the Olympics, we had a very good turnout.

“We want to thank everyone who attended and all the helpers for raising money for such a good cause.”
