AN explosive evening was enjoyed at Eastnor Castle as some of the country’s top fireworks companies lit up the night sky.

Thousands of visitors made the most of a balmy afternoon on Saturday to enjoy picnics in the castle grounds, before darkness fell and the fourth Fireworks Champions event began.

Three contenders each put on 10-minute displays set to music, with the Redditch-based Shockwave Pyrotechnics declared the winner after a text vote by members of the audience.

There was then a spectacular closing display put on by event organiser MLE Pyrotechnics. Tamara Lawrence, MLE’s administration manager, declared the event a big success. “Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it and it was definitely the best event so far,” she said.
