Call for damsons answered

A RECENT plea for damsons published in the Ledbury Reporter has led to a massive and generous response from local people.

Rachel Hicks, of Just Rachel, based at Eggs Tump in Ledbury, found she was rapidly running out of fruit to make her award-winning damson ice cream, because of the poor weather and a poor harvest.

But after the Reporter came to the rescue with an article, 44 people got in contact.

“Many were kind enough to pick the damsons for us and let them have them for free,”

said Rachel.

“We had a young lad who had picked the tree in his garden and drove a hard bargain over the price – a new Alan Sugar in the making! And we had an elderly gentleman who delivered his damsons in a 1954 Morris Minor.”
