Waiting for work on Hereford cattle market to begin

Demolition work has not started on Hereford's old cattle market - but crews are on site according to Herefordshire Council.

Councillor John Jarvis, leader of Herefordshire Council, told a full council meeting last Friday that demolition work on the long-awaited multi-million pound retail quarter would finally begin today (Monday).

When asked when work would be getting under way by the Hereford Times on Twitter this afternoon, Herefordshire Council said demolition crews were arriving on site today and would start "straight away" but "it may be a couple of weeks before we see anything dramatic".

Demolition was set to begin in January this year but the Queen's visit was given as one of the reasons for the delay.

You've gotta give Mr Jarvis some credit here and for my part I'm beginning to like this chap, albeit it costs us a lot to have him doing this role. Well done Mr Jarvis. You are a very brave man. Why?
Because of your clever little caveat, quote, ' 'The work starts today'.....but, and here's the genius in this lovely chaps words, 'it could be a couple of weeks before you see anything dramatic'.(In other words Change!)
God bless you for that little quote good man. I now see from your recent quotes that they are laced with a sense of morbid fear and dread that indicates to me that you are feeling the heat.
I pray for you that during the early stages of the demolition the lads dont find the remains of some hugely important historical Roman settlement. I've got my fingers crossed for you good man. You deserve a break.
Me? I'll peep over the fence in a couple of weeks and look out for this dramatic change.
Once again, good luck. HERE WE CAN.
My very warmest regards.

I'm sorry I don't understand this, it keeps coming up on the radio. Work was supposed to begin in January, but they keep repeatedly saying that it's all on schedule.

How is starting work 9 months after you were supposed to "on schedule"? And they even say it like they believe it's correct.

Ha ha ha come on William pull the other one, it' got bells on it! You call that demolition?! Is that digger even moving?

Mr Jarvis will be quoted tomorrow:

'So, the demolition has indeed started on time but due to the fact Stanhope and HF have bent HC over on the deal, we can only afford one digger. We hope to clear about 10yds square a day and reckon at this rate we'll be on target to finish by 2030ish. That's if we don't get screwed further in the meantime'.

That picture is beyond pathetic ... but thank you Mr Rudd for continuing to confirm the futility of the Futiles set up.

bobby47 - your prayers that the missing remains of some hugely important historical Roman settlement remain missing are misguided - our leaders have already demonstrated their commitment to preserving our priceless archaeological heritage. Who can forget the Rotherwas Ribbon - second only in importance to Stonehenge we were told - open it for the world to see we cried! No, cried those that know better! We'll cover it with tarmac to preserve it for future generations. So, when all the oil has run out, your great, great grandbobby47's can begin digging ... in a tradition handed down through the bobby47 generations.

TwoWheels, Yes! I'd forgotten about their decision to bury the Rotherwas Ribbon for another six thousand years. What a strange approach to a wonderful historical find....bury it!
What a strange thinking process our past and current Council leadership employ to guide us through these hard times. Imagine if they'd found the Staffordshire Hoard or even my nemises, the village of Studmarsh.
My best regards to you Twowheels.

I remember the Queens visit being given as a reason for the delay. Works postponed in January and the Queen arrives at the rail station at 10am on 11th July! I think she was at the Cathedral at 1015am (having gone via the Hereford Bull that she may not even have seen? ~ was she presented with a miniature?) and so how much of the demolition/works would she have seen anyway? Congestion would not have been an issue either as she gets a clear run in a car wherever she goes regardless. I think she left Rotherwas by helicopter (after going to the Meadows) so I suppose she may have been visually offended by some dust or some unsightly concrete mixer hundreds of feet below but this is all pretty shambolic planning/thinking is it not?

I assume this digger is searching for all the buried steel scrap left behind after the sheep pens were themselves 'dismantled' for scrap.

Every inch of the concrete is steel reinforced aswell!!
