NEW information has come to light that could help catch a man who stole more than £1,000 from an elderly woman after convincing her to drive to a bank in Leominster and withdraw cash.

The 83-year-old victim, who let the man into her Bodenham home believing had come to fix her boiler, drove him to Lloyds TSB in Corn Square, Leominster, after he said he needed payment upfront.

She withdrew cash while the man - described as in his 40s, white, tall, with dark hair and as jeans and an anorak - waited in the victim’s silver Honda Civic car.

Later, as they drove on the old Hereford road, the man got out of the car and walked off.

The incident took place between 11am and 3pm on October 2 (Tuesday) and only came to light when the victim told a visiting carer later that day.

Anyone with information can call police on 101, quoting incident number 480S 021012.

A witness has reported seeing a very distinctive orange/gold coloured car - possibly an old style Ford Focus - outside the victim's property in Bodenham at around 3.20pm on the day of the theft.

Chris Ammonds, spokesperson for West mercia Police said: "We are keen to identify the owner/driver of this car. It may be completely unrelated to the theft but we would like to eliminate it from our inquiries either way."
