Book celebrates local churches
1:10pm Monday 8th October 2012 in News
LEDBURY artist Valerie McLean has worked for 10 years to produce a book that celebrates the art and history of local churches.
This book contains many paintings, drawings, prints and collages – often sketchbook pages – about the legacy of skilled craftsmen who worked on a particular cluster of medieval churches, the most famous of which is at Kilpeck in north-west Herefordshire.
But several churches nearer to Ledbury are featured. Mrs McLean who lives on The Langlands, said: “Some of the images are observational drawings and others are a more personal response to the sights and spirit of the sacred places where a group of craftsmen worked at the beginning of the 12th century.”
Kilpeck and the Romanesque in Herefordshire is priced £19.95 in hardback, available from local bookshops, galleries and valeriemclean.com.
