£145k council boss job is advertised
8:30am Monday 15th October 2012 in News By Bill Tanner
HEREFORDSHIRE Council is using a London-based recruitment specialist to find its new chief executive
Veredus – a trading name of Capita Business Services – has begun advertising the post worth up to £145,000.
The application details confirm that package is worth up to £145,000 a year subject to a biannual review, with a 30-day annual leave entitlement plus public and bank holidays.
The council has not, however, confirmed a cost for the recruitment process itself.
Current chief executive Chris Bull – who leaves at the end of this month – was on £183,724 last year, pushed up to a total remuneration of £222,490 by pension contributions.
Forty-five per cent of his salary was recharged to the primary care trust.
Applications for the post close on October 22 with final interviews set for November 12 and 13.

With 3097 council employees earning in excess of £100,000 in the UK I feel spoiled for choice.
When I told my boss I was 'worth it', his reply was .... not printable on this page!!

You just know we're going to get some pen pushing, management speak, I love a gimmick, blue sky thinking, mindless drongo who's had a charisma bye-pass and a full frontal lobotomy.
If he or she emerges from the shadow of secrecy and stands next to one of the new signs, pointing at the bulls testacles and proclaiming, Here We Can, I'm going straight down the Town Hall and beat myself upon the skull with the larger of my three mallets.
Whats the betting their first quote to the HT will be, 'I'm passionate about my new role and I'm driven to deliver.'
They'll probably negotiate some little expenses package that allows them to stay in London and work from home and only travel up here for some pointless but obligatory team building excercise.
That said, lets stay optimistic!

The guys who choose to do this job can earn much much more when working for non government institutions.
For example the Company which owns the HT (News Quest ) pays its Chief Exec £609,385 + £94,986 ( A nice tidy sum) He manages a budget of £365 million compared to the councils £145 million (40% less money managed for 76% less wage ) . So if we go by this industry rate Hereford council should be paying £240000 +.
To manage a budget as big as the councils, you need to pay big bucks, other wise you will get an even bigger clown. Its all well and good for people to rant about the pay, but non of us have the experience or knowledge to carry out the Job despite all the opinions we have on how things should be done ! Looking at some of the nonsense posts on this website if you people were in charge Hereford would be broke within a few months.
Lukio - Brilliant idea lets get rid of the Boss ... nice one ! who then makes all of the people below accountable .. and as for the fiasco you mention ... The campaign for 'Here you can' is an excellent idea to promote and help with the rejuvenation of Hereford rather than let it continue in its current state of going to the dogs as you seem to wish it to !

As far as our negativity is concerned, you are right, but you must understand that for some of us, we are sick and tired of sitting back watching this Council ruin our home with their crazy and badly thought out schemes.
Regarding your posting relating to 'Here you Can', you are wrong. Spending thousands of pounds on this project and then getting Councillor Jarvis to stand there being photographed pointing at a member of the animal kingdom is crazy and it wont bring a single person with a pound to spend into our Herefordshire.
Finally you suggest that we want Hereford to go to the dogs. Let me say this, we Posters dont sit here doing this in order to bring down Hereford. We do it because we care and we take the view that this Council are unfit to lead our community and subsequently, whenever we can, we Post to put some pressure upon this bunch who I feel are bringing about our Citys ruin.
My very warmest regards to you.

most of what you said is dribble......you pay for what you get you say....well im sure millions of people around the country would not agree with that, just look at all the fat cats in the city who were paid £100ks working in the banks, they shafted EVERYONE then walk away with massive pay offs and I for one dont like the idea of some from that sort of background coming to our county in charge of our money and selling us down the river by telling the council to invest our money in pointless projects leave us with evenless than we got now! maybe we should go to Greese and put see if anyone there wants the top job! im betting that you could get someone with all the experience and knowledge for £40k a year!

3 malletts ??
What do you need 3 malletts for ?
I only have one
The head of a local authority is not really comparable to a business leader.
There's guaranteed income and obligations. It's mostly administration and as previous posters have said, holding the minions to account and ensuring their is the right culture.
