SINGING sensation Ellie Goulding says she was misquoted by a newspaper that reported her dismay at being hassled whenever she returns home to Herefordshire.

Dublin’s Evening Herald said that the 25-year-old, whose second album Halcyon came out on Friday, was annoyed that she could not enjoy the same sort of anonymity as U2 superstar Bono when he visits his hometown.

“When he goes back to Dublin, no one seems to care and they leave him alone,” Ellie was reported to have said of Bono.

“When I go back to Hereford, I get followed around, people try and stop me or take my picture.

"Because there’s been so much local press about me, I can’t relax and stroll around by myself without people coming up to me.”

But thw former Lady Hawkins’ School student, who spoke to the Hereford Times this week, denied comparing herself to Bono while distancing herself from the report.

“In one conversation with the journalist, I mentioned that my Irish friends told me that Bono can easily walk around Dublin because he asked me things I liked about Dublin,” she said.

“In another conversation I said that I got recognised a lot in London, and from that he concluded that headline.”

The Lyonshall artist sold more than a million copies of her debut album Lights, which included chart-topping hit Starry Eyed and a cover of the Elton John track Your Song.

Ellie signed to Polydor Records in 2009 and is now based in London.

Her latest single, Anything Could Happen, went straight in at number five in the UK charts on Sunday.

Ellie said that she is “really proud” of the positive reviews that new album Halcyon has so far received.

Yeah. Fame ain't easy. Me and the lads got together in the forties and in the seventies we became the iconic supergroup, The Dreadful Sound. The seminal moment for us and our biggest flop was a cover of The Old Rugged Cross.
During our thrice daily live performances of this number we actually created the first ever live crucifixion on stage. During these performances our roadies would drag Little Bill away from his drum kit and nail him to the crossbar. During Little Bills last voluntary participation in this event, he was reported to scream, " I want me Mam". What he actually did say was, " Im having the time of me life".
My point is, when you are a person of celebrity you are at the mercy of the press.

Having gone through this fame thing and speaking on behalf of the lads in the Dreadful Sound, the Dreadful dozen, I would say to Ellie, steer clear of crucifying your drummer. Little Bill hated it and he resented being made to sing 'Three Blind Mice' whilst he was nailed up there.
Secondly, get your band to learn their craft and be able to play their instruments. We never did. Mostly because all we had was Little Bill's drum kit, ten recorders and a penny whistle.
Finally, to handle the constant demands of the fans, never leave the house without a bucket of water and a Cattle Prod.
