A GUIDE to one of the most impressive church fonts in the country has been published.

Medieval historian Susan Wood has written the guide called The Eardisley Font which the Shell Guide to English Parish Churches describes as the best in England.

The 12th century font at St Mary Magdalene Church is unique in having the “Harrowing of Hell” as its main theme.

It also features fighting men and an enigmatic lion.

The guide is published by the Eardisley History Group and all sales will support local community projects.

Malcolm Mason, chairman of the group, said: “The font is a unique work of art and this new guide takes a completely fresh look at its history based in the latest research.”
