Get your hands on IT cash before superfast broadband arrives
1:40pm Monday 15th October 2012 in News By Bill Tanner
THERE’S cash on offer to “kit out” the county ahead of superfast broadband.
Herefordshire Council is keeping progress on connecting the county secret, but has invited bids for community technology grants.
These grants go towards ensuring a wide range of venues and facilities are able to access the equipment needed to get up to speed once those super-fast internet connections come online.
To date more than 36 grants have been awarded to parish councils or village halls to purchase equipment.
The criteria has now widened to include any sort of venue that will enable any member of the public to access IT equipment, using it for training and communication – particularly where the opportunities to do so are otherwise limited.
There are two rounds of community technology grants with deadlines of October 17 and 28 November.
For the scheme criteria and an application form, call 01432 260753 or email delegatedgrants@herefordshire.gov.uk.
More information is available at herefordshire.gov.uk.

I'm guessing that this lump of our money, put aside for this scheme, its total amount is also a secret from us.
The thing that makes me want to jump through my upstairs window clutching my medication is the phrase, 'the criteria has now widened to include other venues where the public may gather'. In other words, the Council leadership excluded the main public from their first secret decision but now, as a bloody after thought, they've invited us to have a bit of a nibble from the trough.
There are no words in my limited vocabulary to describe the depth of hatred I feel toward them.
