PROUD Ledbury mother Debbie Baker has a very personal reason for organising a Big Curry Night on behalf of the Army Benevolent Fund, otherwise known as The Soldiers'
Charity.
Her 18-year-old son, Michael, is currently undergoing a 15- week training course with the Air Assault Regiment, the Paras, in Colchester, and next year he expects to be sent into action in Afghanistan.
Mrs Baker, of Barnett Avenue said: “My son is in the Army. I am very proud of him.
“Most of my family has been in the Army – uncles and cousins. We are passionate about this.”
Private Baker was a Ledbury Army Cadet before joining the Royal Logistics Corps.
Now he is on placement with the Paras under training, including parachuting, that will see him gain his wings by the new year.
Numerous Ledbury businesses have offered goods and service for a Big Curry Night auction, which will take place at Ledbury Rugby Club on Friday, October 26, from 7pm.
Sausage and chips will be on offer for people who do not like curry.
Tickets, costing £4.50 each, are on sale now from the Bye Street Barbers, Ledbury Town Football Club or by phoning 01531 636141.
