New Hereford rail station could cost more than £10m

RE-OPENING a railway line south of Hereford and building a passenger station in Rotherwas will cost more than £10 million.
That is the conclusion of an independent study looking into a rail expansion to tie in with thousands of jobs said to be coming to Hereford's new Enterprise Zone at Rotherwas.
But plans to continue the line down as far as Holme Lacy and build a station there may have hit the buffers after rail scheme specialists Jacobs revealed almost £60 million would be needed for that particular scheme.
The independent research looked into a potential passenger service from Leominster to Rotherwas and Holme Lacy, plus enhanced facilities at Leominster including a park-and-ride service.
Herefordshire Council says it is no surprise parts of the scheme would be expensive.
It is now considering its options and will hold talks with local stakeholders next month.
A decision on whether to hold a full feasibility study will be made later in the year.
