Dog mess was left to rot for a week
2:00pm Friday 19th October 2012 in News
A RESIDENT is fuming after a bin full of bagged-up dog waste was left for more than a week.
Simon Andrews, aged 25, of Browning Road, Ledbury, said it took Herefordshire Council contractors Amey more than a week to empty a playground bin full of bagged-up dog waste, despite repeated calls.
He said he first reported “the disgusting mess” on October 8, phoned again on October 11, and once more on Monday, October 15.
But the bin wasn’t emptied until the morning of Tuesday, October 16.
Now Mr Andrews, who said children had made a game of throwing the bags of dog waste around the play area in the centre of the New Mills estate, is calling for the bins to be emptied more regularly.
He said: “It was getting to the point where it was ridiculous.
“On a children’s play area it is unacceptable to put bags of dog waste on top of other bags, when the bin is full. It’s a big bin, but one full of dog faeces, and local children had taken it upon themselves to distribute the bags of rotting faeces all over the park.”
Michelle Morgan, a council spokesman, said: “We are sorry for the distress that the overflowing bins in New Mills play area has caused to residents.
“Bins in New Mills play area are scheduled to be emptied on a weekly basis.
Although the schedule has not been disrupted, there was an unusual amount of household rubbish deposited in the bins, causing them to overflow.”
