Go green this weekend

A GREEN- MINDED group of householders in the Ledbury area have banded together under the banner of ‘Low Carbon Ledbury’ to open their eco-homes tomorrow (Sat) and Sunday, as part of the Sustainable Herefordshire h-Energy week.

Event spokesman Paul Kinnaird said: “Over the weekend three houses in Ledbury and three houses in Putley and Aylton are demonstrating a variety of retro-fit and new-build energy saving and insulation measures.”

Wahroonga, New Street, is a new house built to the exacting EU energy standards by local builder Mike Whitfield.

Glen Helen, Elmsdale Road, is a 1950s house which has been retro-fitted with lots of energy-saving and low carbon solutions.

The Coach House at Hazel Farm demonstrates two-thirds reduction in energy usage and has an eco-barn built from recycled bricks, tiles and local timber.

Mr Kinniard said: “Displays of woodland produce, beekeeping and beefriendly planting, permaculture and composting are taking place across the venues.
