FA Cup First Round Draw: Hereford United to face Shrewsbury Town at Edgar Street

HEREFORD United fans are in dreamland after seeing the Bulls draw local rivals Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup First Round.

The Bulls will face Graham Turner's side at Edgar Street on the weekend of November 3.

The tie is sure to attract a lot of interest, with a large attendance expected, helping to boost the coffers at financially stricken Hereford.

It is hoped that the game may also be televised, which brings back memories of the 2001/02 season.

Back then, Hereford were really struggling to stay afloat, but managed to beat Dover 1-0 in the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round.

They then faced Wrexham in the First Round, which was screened live on BBC1.

The much needed money that the game generated kept the club alive, with then chairman Graham Turner saying that if Hereford had not beaten Dover, the club may not have made it into 2002.

Current Bulls chairman David Keyte said this week that the club need a £300,000 cash injection and called on 2,000 fans to each donate £100.

Hereford beat FC United of Manchester 2-0 yesterday in the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round to earn the tie against Shrewsbury.
