Marathon bids

A FIRST-time London Marathon runner from Upton is holding an auction of promises and gifts to get her fund-raising for the big race under way.

Caroline Spencer has been awarded a place to run for Zurich Cares, which supports Alzheimer’s Society, CLIC Sargent and Hope and Homes for Children, and needs to raise at least £1,300 in sponsorship.

She will be holding the auction in Upton’s White Lion Hotel at 7.30pm on Friday, November 30, and has already been buoyed by generous pledges including a wedding photography package worth almost £1,000 from Richard Atkin.

Although Mrs Spencer has been running for five years to keep fit and has previously completed a half marathon, this will be the first time she has attempted the full 26.2 mile distance.

She said it had been a longstanding ambition to take part in the London Marathon and, as she turns 40 in January, decided next year would be the perfect time.
