IT is 50 years since the infamous Dr Beeching closed railway branch lines across the country and next month, Bromyard, a victim of the closures, celebrates its railway history with a community play.
The play, Last Train To Leominster, on September 12 and 13, is pure fifties nostalgia and this production by the Conquest tells the story of the Bromyard to Leominster railway branch line and is packed with songs from the 1950s.
The play, which was specially written for the Conquest, was inspired by the 50th anniversary of the running of the last train along the line in the spring of 1958 before the track was finally taken up.
It also records the enthusiasm of those who now work so hard to restore parts of it.
Described as a whistle-stop tour through the railway history of a small town this original production has lots of singing and lots of fun. Performances of the play on September 12 and 16 are at 7.30pm and tickets cost £8 and £7.
