THE second phase of the conversion of the former Benedictine monastery Stanbrook Abbey at Callow End, near Malvern, into a wedding and events venue is underway and set to be completed by November. Stepnell’s, the Kidderminster-based construction company, is carrying out a multi-million pound programme of work including the conversion of 90 former nuns’ cells at the 19th century Grade II listed Abbey on the edge of the Old Hills into 52 luxury en-suite bedrooms and suites.

The project, designed by Howl Associates of Kidderminster, will also include a major new stone-clad extension to the Abbey’s north wing to create a new reception area, a bar and an enlarged, double-height banqueting space. An impressive new gated entrance has been created for guests within the walled grounds.

AmaZing Venues, part of the Clarenco Group which has a market-leading portfolio of iconic and unusual properties across the UK, opened Stanbrook Abbey set in 21 acres of countryside, as a luxury venue for weddings, conferences and corporate events in 2012.

“We are proud to have been chosen by AmaZing Venues to work on this unique and historic building which has been transformed into a world-class wedding and conference venue and are delighted to be playing our part by undertaking this latest phase of redevelopment,” said Stepnell director Richard Wakeford. “We share the dedication of Clarenco (AmaZing Venues) to exceptional service and we are committed to delivering the very highest standards of craftsmanship drawing on our expertise in working on historic properties.”
