CHILD'S play took on a new meaning for a group of Worcester lawyers when they spent a day volunteering at children’s charity New Hope.

As part of its community commitment, SME Solicitors in Sansome Walk gives staff one paid working day per year to volunteer or work on a local community project. The city centre firm has fundraised for New Hope in the past and staff wanted to gain a greater understanding of the charity’s work.

Jean Wilson, director and founder of New Hope, said: "The children had a wonderful day with all the staff from SME. It was the first day of our summer play scheme and it was great to have visitors. Everyone played games and enjoyed the barbecue afterwards. Our thanks go to SME for giving up their time to support the children, we really appreciate it."

Stacey Redman from SME, who was one of the volunteers, added: “This charity is really close to the hearts of everyone at SME, so it was a complete privilege to spend a day there, helping and playing with the children. It enabled us to gain a different, more practical perspective on the charity and their work than seen at fundraising events. We all felt a deep determination to support New Hope even more and were moved by the amazing work Jean and her team do with the children there.”
