WORCESTER technology company PCA Predict is to host a Code Club meetup at its Waterside offices in Diglis on Thursday, July 21.

The events are designed to encourage experienced programmers to become volunteers to teach and support primary school children aged nine to 11 to learn how to code.

Code Club’s mission is to give every child in the UK and beyond, the chance to learn code by providing learning resources and a volunteering framework to support the after school coding clubs. It now has 4,490 clubs running country wide, held in schools, libraries and community centres with 62,000 children taking part

PCA Predict’s chief executive Jamie Turner said: “Representatives from schools, local technology companies or individuals that have coding experience will be most welcome to not only find out a little bit more about the role of Code Club volunteers, but also to network with other like-minded techies.

“These events are also a way of saying thank you to existing volunteers who have really helped fly the flag for Code Club. As an expanding technology business we can’t stress the importance of encouraging the next generation of coders to go into computing with a view to pursuing careers in technology.”

More than 50 Code Clubs now run across Herefordshire and Worcestershire and West Midlands regional coordinator Tim Wilson wants more children to learn how to code.

He said: “With Code Club, we provide a simple model to allow schools and libraries to start a club, providing free materials to enable children to wax lyrical with their creativity and digital making skills whilst building wonderful collaborations with their peers, teachers and volunteers.

We invite you to the Code Club meetup in Worcester to find out more.”
