NON-PROFIT organisation CG5 has appointed two new trustees and two additional patrons, as it continues to provide financial support to the county’s future sports stars.

CG5, which was named after former Worcester Warriors lock Craig Gillies and aims to promote participation in sport among young people, has added to its four founding trustees by appointing businessman and martial arts gym owner Dan Richards, and Worcester Wolves basketball veteran Chris Lowe, as trustees of the charity.

CG5 has also announced another two patrons who will help oversee its ongoing success and profile across the county.

Dutch-born Worcester jeweller Anja Potze becomes a patron along with Peter Millichip, chief executive of Sir Bert Millichip Sports. They both join Mick Donovan, deputy pro vice chancellor at the University of Worcester, who was named as the organisation’s first patron last year.

Steve Edwards, trustee of CG5, said: “CG5 has come on leaps and bounds in the past 18 months and our profile has raised considerably, meaning more people are requesting grants to help them realise their sporting dreams. All four appointments will be vital to us in running the charity, but also in deciding grant awards and helping to run fundraising events. Each person brings different experience, expertise and profile to CG5 and I am certain they will add an extra dimension as we look to award even more grants over the next 12 months".

CG5 announced the appointments at its latest fundraising event, a Ladies Marquee Evening, held at Worcester Racecourse. It also awarded grants to more young people, including six year-old golf star Jack Dirkin, who is the UK’s number one in his age group. He was the 17th person to be awarded a sporting grant by CG5 since it began in 2015.

CG5 is now managed by a group of six trustees. Apart from Mr Richards, Mr Lowe and Mr Edwards, they include Worcestershire businessmen Simon Secretan and Rob March, alongside Craig Gillies.
